Coaching Approach

Coaching is a form of learning to achieve set goals and improve performance in a way that benefits you. As your coach, through conversation and by asking questions, I would help you to gain insights on your current situation and to take action that gets you the results you want. 

 

By building a trusting, non-judgmental and supportive environment, I focus on asking effective questions with increasing levels of challenge to create wider insights for clients. I create space and presence within the sessions, supporting clients to explore their thoughts and feelings using a variety of models & tools.

I am generally non-directive in my approach, encouraging reflective learning for clients and allowing sessions to unfold in a fluid way whilst ensuring a goal and action focus. I weave theoretical models and positive psychology into an appreciative approach, encouraging clients to identify and build on their strengths and what has gone well. As an engineer and business leader, I bring my broad business experience to provide context to my executive coaching practice.

By helping to identify what makes individuals tick, their values, beliefs and sense of purpose, I support clients to explore transformational “bigger picture” issues as well as the more transactional “day-to-day”.

A programme of coaching can vary from a single session (to focus on a particular issue) to ongoing sessions over months & years, depending on the needs of the client - although a "typical" programme might be 5 or 6 sessions, 1-2 hours long spaced out every 4-6 weeks. We would start with an initial conversation to agree our ways of working together, before understanding your current situation, defining your goals and looking at possible ways of achieving them. Each session would end with you agreeing actions to take in the period before our next session.

  • Online video meetings (using Zoom, FaceTime or similar)

  • Telephone call

  • In person in SW or Central London (when Covid restrictions allow)

  • Timings flexible, on Fridays, weekends or evenings
